That would make for a relationship worth rooting for, where they help each other grow into better people and the show has the guts to truly paint their heroine as realistically flawed, instead of this weird fuckery where Kara looks like a complete hypocrite half the time but is still lauded for sainthood by the show, and the relationship plays into the whole good girl fixes bad boy thing anyway.Īlso, the show needs to remember Mon-el wanted to be a hero at one point, lmao. If the show is determined to make this romance work, they can easily sidestep the "girl fixes damaged boy" by pointing out that Kara is just as fucked up, albeit in different ways, and they need to try and help each other improve instead of having Kara devote herself to Mon-el's growth.

It's not like Kara is the epitome of a perfect partner while Mon-el is complete dipshit who doesn't know how to treat his partner well, they're both kind of awful to each other at times. The strangest thing is that the show has a perfectly viable out for this. I don't like Kara having to teach him how to treat her in a relationship. That is the real love story of Supergirl. Romance on televison rarely works for me, so I am not surprised I am not caring for this particular one. It just isnt interesting or engaging and it is pretty much all Kara has done since they started dating. There is no reward for being a good person, and an expectation of one is contradictory to the idea of goodness for its own sake. Now that it is all wrapped in the romance it seems as if the reward for being a better person and learning to be a superhero is Kara. It worked better when Kara acted in a more mentor role- as they point out in the article she's finally able to do for Mon El what she couldnt for Clark. It seems as if they are tying his arc from douchebag to hero to his desire to bang Kara. I think the complaint that Mon El only seemed interested in becoming a "hero" after he expressed romantic interest in Kara is valid. To view the spoiler, simply click the box.
